Porcelain veneer application, which is a prosthetic application, is an application that is frequently used in aesthetic dentistry, especially in the restoration of the posterior teeth in the lower jaw. Metal supported porcelain veneers, which are widely used since they are highly durable and custom-made for the patients and perfectly fit into the mouth, are applied in case of excessive staining, cracks, fractures, yellowing and so on. Porcelain veneers with metal support make teeth look healthy and beautiful again and they have some advantages and disadvantages.
The most important advantage of them is that they are very long-lasting and durable thanks to the metal support. Moreover, since they fit to the teeth, they protect the underlying tooth and also provide comfort of use for the patient. And they can also be used easily by acting as a bridge in large gaps with more missing teeth. In addition, metal supported porcelain veneer application is much more economical than other applications such as Zirconium.
They have some disadvantages: Metal supported porcelain veneers have low light transmittance due to the metals in them. They reflect the light as opaque. This is the biggest feature that distinguishes it from zirconium coatings. Even if it is made close to the natural color of the tooth, an exact natural appearance cannot be obtained as in Zirconium. For this reason, metal supported veneers are generally used on posterior teeth; they are mostly not preferred in front teeth. In addition, a minor yet distinct color difference occurs in metal supported veneers at the gum level.
The average duration of metal supported porcelain veneer treatment performed under local anesthesia is 10 days. The patient's teeth to be treated are reduced and prepared for coating during general examination. Subsequently, the size of the teeth is determined and preparation of the veneers begins. During this period, temporary teeth are fitted to the patient so that the patient does not have to be toothless and appointment is made for the veneer. After the veneers are ready, they are adhered to the patient's teeth with a special adhesive. This process, which continues in sessions, is completed in 10 days on average as mentioned above.
Although the metal supported porcelain veneers are more economical, it may vary from patient to patient depending on the scope of the procedure and the number of teeth. It is important to perform a general dental examination for the patient in order to determine the final price and application time.
